PROJECT TITLE:
Alliance Theatre: Palefsky Collision Project
OVERVIEW:
For over 20 years, the Palefsky Collision Project has helped teens express themselves through theater. Each summer, the Alliance Theatre brings together a diverse group of teenagers for three weeks, guided by a professional creative team. In the first two weeks, participants explore a source text, enjoy theater workshops, engage with experts, and reflect through creative writing. Their insights are then transformed into a unique new piece of theater. The final week focuses on rehearsals, leading to performances at the Alliance Theatre, while One Vision Productions was tasked to provide photo and video documentation of the entire process.
GOALS:
The project aims to empower teens by providing them with a platform to express their thoughts, experiences, and creativity through theater. It fosters collaboration among diverse participants, encouraging teamwork and collective artistic creation. The project enhances participants' artistic skills in acting, writing, and production through hands-on workshops and guidance from professionals. Additionally, it promotes personal reflection and self-discovery through creative writing and interpretation of the source material.
PROCESS:
Over the course of several weeks, we conducted visits to each of the participating clubs to meticulously document the creative process of the youth involved in the project. Collaborating with various clubs throughout the Metro-Atlanta area, the participants engaged deeply with the Gettysburg Address, exploring its significance in relation to their own lives and experiences. We recorded and photographed each rehearsal, capturing the progress leading up to the final performance. On performance day at the Hertz Theatre, we conducted interviews with patrons of the arts, stakeholders, and the young performers, gathering insights before, during, and after the event.
OUTCOMES:
Upon the successful completion of the documentation for the Collision Project, we delivered professional photographs and high-quality digital edits to the Alliance Theatre, encompassing the entirety of the project from initiation to conclusion. This comprehensive documentation not only illuminated the artistic journey of the participants but also underscored the meaningful connections fostered within the community. The final product effectively showcased the students’ creativity and growth, leaving a lasting and positive impression on all those involved.
