PROJECT TITLE:

Guide to Oral Health Care for People Living with HIV/AIDS.

OVERVIEW:

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB) administers the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) and has a critical role in helping to diagnose, treat, prevent, and respond to HIV as part of the federal Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program provides a comprehensive system of care for approximately 52% of all people living with HIV in the United States, including primary medical care and essential support services.

GOALS:

The objective of this technical assistance project is to develop a training manual for Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program providers titled Guide to Oral Health Care for People Living with HIV/AIDS.  Chapter 1, Oral Health, with have an accompanying video of a dental screening demonstration. One Vision Productions goal was to provide audio/video recording of the screening, and editing of the recording.

PROCESS:

The project began with a comprehensive assessment of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program training manual that focused on the critical relationship between oral health and HIV, addressing common issues and preventative measures. Chapter 1 guided providers in effective dental screening techniques, complemented by a video demonstration produced by One Vision Productions. This video highlighted best practices and engaged viewers through real-world scenarios. Following the development, pilot testing was conducted to gather feedback from providers, leading to revisions for clarity and effectiveness.

OUTCOMES:

The final video was distributed digitally and physically to enhance provider knowledge, improve clinical skills, and increase patient engagement in oral health discussions. Ultimately, this project aimed to reduce oral health disparities among individuals living with HIV/AIDS, foster ongoing education and better health outcomes, and establish sustainable training resources to support enhanced care practices within the Ryan White Program.
